WORLD HISTORY
The Humanities Institute History Program offers articles dealing with a variety of approaches to world history, including treatments of basic subjects and a variety of new approaches. Encyclopedias are structured to facilitate user ability to trace topics across areas and periods and to develop cross-regional comparisons. Each entry includes some orienting questions and a brief bibliography. The History Program continues to expand, with the introduction of additional core and thematic coverage.
HI's offerings in world history fall into two principal categories. First, a wide range of concise entries cover major regions of civilization areas of the world by chronological period: ancient, postclassical, early modern, 19th century, and contemporary (20th-early 21st century). The regions are listed on the "regions" page, each searchable by time period.
Second, a number of essays deal with key themes or topics in world history, with searchable regional and chronological subdivisions. The topics are listed on the "themes" page and offer the means of considering a variety of aspects of the human experience on a global scale.
